Passenger vehicles account for the vast majority (89%) of transportation emissions. The remainder comes from freight and commercial use, transit vehicles, and some off-road vehicle use
Clean transportation options, like transit, biking, and walking, must be safe, accessible, and affordable for everyone, with investments prioritized in communities most at risk. This ensures the benefits of safer streets, reliable mobility, and cleaner air are shared, strengthening both social and climate resilience across Beaverton.
Achieving these outcomes will require:
- Partnerships with PGE, Beaverton School District, TriMet, and entities with public fleets to align the installation of EV charging infrastructure and policies .
- Strategic investment in EV charging, especially at multi-unit housing and other underserved locations.
- City leadership to advance the electrification of municipal fleets at time of vehicle purchase, adoption of renewable diesel policies, and support of clean commuting options for employees.
- Policy changes, such as renewable fuel standards to encourage the adoption of low-carbon fuels, making it easier for consumers to make cleaner choices.
- Investments in active transportation planning and infrastructure to give people the option to choose lower carbon mode of travel.
