Description
Background
Expanding and diversifying the urban canopy reduces heat islands, improves air quality, provides habitat, and supports mental and physical health. As the region faces hotter summers, more frequent droughts, and shifting precipitation patterns, the city can plant and manage green spaces with native and climate-resilient species.
Progress Update
- Staff and partners have ongoing collaborations to maintain current greens spaces, parks, and urban tree canopy.
- Efforts to expand and strengthen urban tree canopy, parks, and natural areas through projects like the Urban Forestry Master Plan are delayed due to lack of funding and capacity.
