Composting food scraps and yard waste helps create nutrient‑rich soil rather than methane. Making composting accessible for everyone—especially in multifamily housing—keeps organic waste out of landfills and supports statewide climate and waste‑reduction goals.

Codified and implemented a Beaverton business food scraps requirement (4.08.630).
In July 2019, the City of Beaverton adopted a requirement for certain food generating businesses to collect food scraps separate from garbage. COB Code 4.08.630
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regional food scraps mandate was delayed two years and Implementation is scheduled to begin in 2022.
